The Benefits of 360º

Feedback is the fuel that feeds improved performance. To change behaviors, employees and managers need to know how their performance is evaluated by others. Traditional performance reviews give the manager’s perspective, but usually don’t include evaluations from others, like peers, direct reports or customers. Each of these constituencies can view an individual’s performance from a different perspective. It is only when we pull all of these views together that we get a full picture. A 360 review provides feedback about how others perceive an individual’s performance. Such a review includes feedback from many different people who interact with the person being assessed, such as the person’s manager, those who report to the person, peers, and customers. The person being assessed also completes a self-evaluation, thus going full circle to gather information about performance.
